2009 Shootout

Tuesday 29 September 2009

MISSOULA, MT - Six teams from around the Northwest and Canada will meet this weekend for the Garden City’s annual fall ball showdown known as the Montana Lacrosse Shootout.

Featuring collegiate club teams from The University of Montana, The University of Idaho, Washington State University, Gonzaga University and Montana State University and a senior men’s team from Calgary, Alberta, this year’s shootout promises to be one of the best and most competitive to date.

The weekend event will also feature a scrimmage match-up with the young, local players of the Missoula Elite Lacrosse high school program.

“We’re super stoked to host the Shootout again,” said Griz Manager Will Moss. “It’s always been a really fun and really competitive event that not only showcases the beauty of fall in Missoula, but also the high-level of lacrosse being played here and throughout the Pacific Northwest.”

The Griz, who in the past have split their team in two for the tournament, will field one team this year, giving their very young, very talented roster a chance to find some cohesion and identity.

“They’re young, but they’re fast,” said Moss, “and there’s a lot of them.”

The Shootout, which is again at the University’s Dornblaser Field complex, begins Saturday at Noon with two rounds of bracket games and continues Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with the completion of the brackets in the morning and a round of consolation games and the championship match up in the afternoon.

Concessions will be available courtesy of Missoula Elite Lacrosse.
