Griz beat Boise
MISSOULA, MONT. - The University of Montana men’s lacrosse team defeated the surging Boise State University Broncos, 15-11, Saturday afternoon in a drizzling home game with major post-season implications at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. The victory, which puts Montana at 9-3 for the season, marks the Grizzly’s last conference match-up of the regular season and guarantees the Griz a spot in the 2008 Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League Final Four which takes place May 3 & 4 in Missoula.
Coming off a successful road trip to New England where the Grizzlies went 2-0 against Northeastern Universtiy and the University of New Hampshire, the snowy/rainy Missoula weather welcomed the Griz back to lacrosse in Montana.
The Broncos arrived in Missoula on a mission. Though short manned, they brought a fury of attitude and swagger into the den of the defending National Champions. Throughout the day, the Broncos exploited some big holes in the Grizzly defense and were allowed to stay in the game. Their physical style sent several Griz to the sidelines, but in the end they simply couldn’t put enough together for the win.
Montana faceoff specialists Tucker Sargent and Travis McCarthy helped the Griz control the tempo and senior attackman Zander Ault stepped up big time in his final regular season home game, finishing with 5 goals on the day.
The Griz will travel to Bozeman, Mont. on Saturday Apr. 26 to finish the regular season schedule with a matchup against instate rivals Montana State.
